“Even though we were proudly celebrating our 100 years of independency, our focus was in the future, in the next hundred years.

We wanted to spark off interest in long-span and effective co-operation. And we did succeed, exceeding the expectations. A co-operation programme for the next five years was outlined at the project’s final gala in Shanghai in December. The theme of the programme is ”Life in Future Cities”.

Quite an achievement is also the unforeseen collaboration out team has created between Chinese universities that are famous of competing with each other. And, what’s best, they are also enthusiastic about continuing this co-operation in the Life in Future Cities programme. Our Chinese partners were grateful for this and complimented us on this accomplishment.

Our intention is to invite new partners to the Life in Future Cities programme from Finland and China. New cities in addition to Espoo and Shanghai as well as other universities and polytechnics in addition to Aalto University, University of Helsinki, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Guangdong University of Technology and other significant institutions. And not to forget the Finnish and Chinese companies who are interested in creating future building innovative products, services and synergy creating forms of creative co-operation.

In the beginning, our Chinese friends emphasized the significance of friendship and shared wisdom. Those are a valuable adhesive for the future collaboration."
